.whatta year, whatta 2005 (part02).

here's the second part of my 2005 year-ender:

New Achievements--Big and Small
the funny, the serious, the shitty things i have achieved this year:

  • got the scholarship grant at british school manila
  • survived my quinceñera night (in a dress!)
  • learned at least one word in vietnamese
  • finished a whole bowl of pho hoa at the vietnamese restaurant
  • bought my shirt with my own money and not my mom's
  • got on a tricycle and commuted on my own
  • coached a u-12 futsal team
  • wore dangling earrings and make-up
  • learned to play the bass
  • made a movie and music video for school
  • officially became the corniest person i know
  • made new friends in germany
  • sang onstage, not minding how off-key i was
  • cleaned my room twice as often as the year before
  • wrote a short story and didn't care how dumb it was
  • organized a fund-raising concert
  • hugged my classmates, which is something i don't really do
  • met yael, had my photo taken with him, and had him sign my cd

can't remember other achievements. wala na yata eh. kawawa naman ako!

Best Buys
things i bought this year which i treasure very much, because i know i used my money *ahem* wisely:

  • spongecola's palabas (the repackaged one)
  • my i love feedback shirt from artwork
  • countless vcds (at least originals, di pirated)
  • bamboo's lightlovepeace
  • my bass guitar, of course!
  • keychains from vietnam and germany
  • pencils and sketchpad (marunong pala ako mag-sketch. hehe)
  • paulo coelho's veronika decides to die

can't remember the other things i bought. basta yan na yun...for now...

Thank You's...
nyak! parang sa album, haha. well, if ever our band does make it big, i'll remember to put this in:

"Feel" of the Future
what i feel and think and how i'm looking forward to year 2006

actually, i'm scared shitless about 2006. shockers! maka-graduate kaya ako? i was planning before to do something--one last big prank in school, so i'd feel how it is to be suspended (i know, weird...)--but now i just really want to graduate with a clean record. exam results from different colleges would be arriving this january, and i feel like i didn't pass in any of the schools i'd tested in. damn, peter pan syndrome is kicking in--i don't want to grow up just yet.
funny, my fears for 2006 are mostly school-related, but i'm not really the gotta-get-no-grade-below-90 type of student. hehe. anyway, brand new year, brand new fears...and brand new me? (hmm...kolehiyala na? haha! weeee!)

.whatta year, whatta 2005 (part01).

happy new year! just for the record, i made this 2005 year-ender:

Well, Hello There!
I met loads of really nice people throughout 2005:

the ASEC people
:: hell, i don't really know any of 'em, but they were really nice when they entertained us at ateneo during the ASEC week ::

maria ysabel minase-lagman
:: my little angel, my little princess, my one and only inaanak. blessing ka talaga for us, iyaboo! ::

mr. hein (sp?)
:: driver ni papa (and namin) sa vietnam. haha, he always makes me feel like royalty. always gives gifts. even served me food, as in putting food on my plate kahit na simpleng gawain lang naman yun... ::

pa's other vietnamese buddies
:: they toured us around vietnam. really friendly people. they made us enjoy our stay there. ::

new teachers sa school
:: papa peng! ms. detdet! and yung iba pa...hehe. ayus, almost every class is nakaka-high. sayang only met them this school year, then graduate na ako (if i graduate) ::

the TIBYC and WYD gang
:: my new bunch of friends from around the globe. it was great hanging out with them. they keep in touch with me every now and then, and it matters a lot to me. i love you guys! ::

studio cafe peeps
:: haha! some of the most talented people i have and (probably) will ever meet. the very helpful ones, too--for band competition and concert rehearsals, even though i'm such a loser. anyway, isa pang pizza! cheesy pepperoni ha! ::

tita sonia
:: best retreat, er reco, master i've had (and my classmates would agree, most likely). gave the best recollection ever. cool! hehe. ::

other new friends
:: band ni john (cookies&cream) na sobrang astig, the kids at inchican (especially ang aking beloved one, si benjie, haha), the people at childhaus ::

spongecola
:: yael, armo, chris, and gosh. haha! didn't really meet them, nakasama lang backstage. but they're the nicest guys i've met, very down-to-earth. even my mom says so, and that's definitely saying something! ::

hmm...just a few hours na lang before the new year. will i still meet someone before the year ends? hopefully! haha.

Marked on the Calendar
ang daming nangyari this year, and they're all very special to me:

ASEC Week 2005, 28january
:: Ateneo Student Exchange Council Week 2005. gave me a one-day-experience of buhay college. walking from building to building, getting lost around the campus, having absolutely no idea what the class is discussing. astig! bakit kaya hindi ko nakita si yael noon? di ko pa kasi masyado naririnig spongecola nun eh... ::

quincenera, february
:: haay, almost forgot about this. my 'rents didn't attend it kasi eh. had to go with my tito and tita. 'twas pretty okay naman, had fun with my classmates ::

scholarship grant at BSM, may
:: my second scholarship. first was st. ed's in england, now the british school manila. didn't take it, though. stuck with st. scho. kulasa ako! ::

trip to vietnam
:: first trip as a family. kinailangan pa pala ni papa umalis just to get the whole family to go on a trip together. anyway, a fun experience. and the noodles there--sarap! ::

new school year, june
:: waah! my last year at ssc-westgrove. grabe! no way! haha! my junior year was better, but this senior year is also pretty okay. this would be forever special to me, simply because it was my last year at st. scho. haay... ::

college entrance tests, august-november

bass lessons, september
:: where would i be ngayon if i didn't take bass lessons? wala siguro ako sa studio, di ako kumakain ng pizza, sablay-sablay siguro ako tumugtog (that is, kung may nag-invite pa sa akin to be in a band)...thank goodness i went against my mom's orders and didn't wait for her to allow me to take lessons! hehe! ::

the YMAD kick-off concert 2005, 12november
:: who would've thought our class would be able to pull off somethin' as great as this? whew! although i don't think i ever recovered from all the stress and fatigue. at least nakatulong kami sa childhaus, and nakatugtog kami in front of a crowd ::

the rock and groove unlimited for peace concert, 21december
:: ang pinaghirap-hirapan naming performance! haha! and spongecola was there! whoa, parang unbelievable, pero they were there! sa school namin! astig! of course, can't forget the other bands--orange&lemons, urbandub, and juanpablodream. great concert. fun concert ::

christmas, 25december
:: very special christmas, because it's our first christmas with iyaboo! heehee! special christmas for a special little princess ::

there were so many other events that happened this year, but these are definitely the highlights of my year 2005.

All Mapped Out
I went to a few places this year--some were new, some were old, some out of town, some just around. pero masaya pa rin kahit saan:

ateneo de manila university
:: first time i went to admu was for the asec, second was for the acet. ganda ng environment dun, and the people there were really nice ::

british school manila
:: really beautiful school. i used to imagine myself walking around the campus (that was before i turned down the scholarship) ::

Friday, December 30, 2005

two days ago, we went through manila on our way home from pampanga (where we visited mama's relatives). we passed by the university of sto. tomas, and my 'rents went on a little trip down memory lane, pointing to me this place and that, where they used to board, or eat lunch, blah blah blah. seeing manila and the way things worked there, it got me thinking, "how the hell would i survive college next year (that is, if i graduate this year)?"

damn. i don't even know how to commute. actually, i don't even walk around my neighborhood much, paano pa kaya pag sa manila akonag-aral. uh oh. i seriously need help. or else.

if i study in ust, it'd at least be a bit easy, because my cousins study there. but what if i study somewhere else, like ateneo, or la salle, or up? waah!!! i haven't even been on a LRT or MRT, and i don't know how to get on the right bus to the right place. shoot! paano na kaya buhay college?

.backstage nung concert.

here it is, my story--mainly focused on spongecola, siyempre. hehe.

so, being a performer (nyak! performer daw! kapal!) for the concert, and since senior student ako, i had the privilege to hang out backstage during the concert. although yung paglabas-pasok was tolerated, i don't think the nu107 people and the security guards and the bouncers weren't too happy with me and my mates going back and forth, to and from the lobby. pero siyempre, me, being the pasaway, sige lang nang sige. paki ko ba, di ba?

actually, i didn't really hang out that much backstage, hindi man ako kumuha nung food. may hiya pa naman ako. it was only when mr. yael yuzon and company came that i really hung out sa lobby.

when i saw my classmates running to the lobby, sumama na ako. and as luck would have it, nandun si yael, naglalakad-lakad (baka kukuha ng food, i dunno). grabbing the opportunity, i asked ailora kung pwede ba niya ako kuhanan ng picture with yael sa cam niya. ang sira ko kasi eh, di nagdala ng cam--kitang may concert! (all together now, "ang bobo mo talaga, fides! haha!). anyway, mga classmates ko pa yung naunang mag-take ng pictures, so i asked someone (i forgot who) to call my lil sis, jinky. i know she'd love to have a picture with yael, and it would somehow be my christmas gift for her na rin. but jinx wasn't around yet, and i didn't want to ask yael to wait for her (nakakahiya yun noh!) so i took a picture with him without jinx. and then a few minutes after jinx came, sabi ko na lang later na kami ulit magpa-picture sa kanya.

armo also went past us, and one of my mates had her picture taken with him. i didn't bother asking armo, hehe, kasi kay yael ko lang naman gusto magpa-picture.

lumabas ulit ako ng lobby to watch urbandub. then my mom came from i dunno where and showed us a ticket that had something written on it. nakalagay: "MM and Chinky, hi!" then signature. i couldn't recognize whose sig it was, so sabi ko kay mama, "kanino galing yan?" and then she said, "kay yael!" haha. astig! he spelled jinky's name wrong nga lang. at least yung sa kin tama, 'MM'. hehe! thank you, yael!

so i went inside, thinking baka pwede na magpa-autograph. i went to where my bag was, and as i was getting my spongecola cd, lee told me, "oy, fides! sikat na naman pangalan mo. nung nag-sign si yael ng poster and nilagay nya ung name mo, sabi niya, 'fides? di ba latin yun for faith?'" haay, for the first time in my life, natuwa ako sa pangalan kong kakaiba. hehe!

i ran to the other side of the lobby, kung saan yung professional bands. i think yael was watching urbandub perform, kasi nandun siya malapit sa stage. my mom saw jinx and me, and she got yael and introduced us.

mama: eto yung daughters ko, si mm and jinky.
yael: ah, okay. hi!
mama: (pointing to me) she plays in a band, bassist siya.

yael said something like, "okay," hindi ko na naintindihan because i was too embarrassed with my mom. pwede na talaga siyang stagemother. geez, nakakahiya! kay yael yuzon pa, di ba? syet. oh, by the way, my mom kept saying "nael" or "mael", i dunno, instead of "yael." hopefully, maingay masyado for yael not to have heard it. kahit ngayon, both mama and papa call him "mael", pero pang-inis na lang sa 'kin, because they know how big a fan i am of the guy.

then, naalala ko si mikee. sabi ko i'll find a way para ma-meet niya si yael. kaso security got really tight, kaya hindi ko na siya mapapapunta. i went to my mom and told her, "d'you think you can get yael's autograph for mikee? basta, si mikee, yun na yun." she said okay, tapos nagtanong na rin sina lee and loraine kung pwede isabay yung sa kanila. i got the signed ticket for mikee, tapos takbo ako para hanapin siya. then bumalik na naman ako sa lobby.

anyway, madz (ang bokalista ng 10thmuse) came with her cd and a marker. nagpa-sign siya kay yael, so sumabay na ako. yael asked for her name.

madz: madz.
yael: (something like) ikaw yung isa dun sa mga may posters dun?

madz nodded. and then i handed yael my cd inlay for him to sign. he also asked for my name. siyempre ako, ever the starstruck fan, di pa makasagot nung una.

me: uh, fides.
yael: oh, ikaw pala yun. (mama introduced me kasi as 'mm', eh it's my nickname at home lang) di ba it's latin for 'faith'?
me: yeah, yeah. hehe. (to no one in particular) haay, parang nung reco namin yan din yung unang tanong sa 'kin, di ba? (we kinda laughed it off na lang...)

it was a really awkward moment, because yael is probably the umpteenth person to ask about my name. wala lang. usually i get a bit pissed off kasi dinidiin ng ibang tao yung meaning ng name ko, pero since si yael yun...haay...haha! mahal ko na ang name ko! weee! and when he was done writing, i got it and said thanks. nakasulat: "fides! hi! faith! hehe! -- yael, sc". astig talaga!

before he went, my mom got him again and asked if he could pose for a picture with me and jinky. he said sure, so smile naman kami ni jinx. ailo lent her cam to mama, then took the pic. kaya lang, ailo said afterwards, "fides, isa pa. madilim eh." and when i saw it, walanghiya, eh di talaga kami kita! ayus talaga pag nanay ko kumuha eh. so i approached yael again, and asked, "hey, pwede bang isa pa? mali kasi yung kuha eh." so pose ulit kami, tapos ayos na. happy na lahat. hehe. grabe, super humiliated na talaga ako. start pa lang yun ha! then we were told to leave the guys alone na, kasi magpe-perform na sila. eh di takbo na ako sa labas para hintayin sila tumugtog.

the hosts were still talking when chris came out, then si gosh, armo, and lastly, yael. hindi na masyado narinig yung hosts kasi nagsisigawan na yung mga tao for spongecola. when they were finally set to play, yael said their first song was 'lunes', and he was hoping that "magsasayawan ang lahat." so, kaming mga yaelistas sayaw naman, sabay sigawan and kantahan. i had just bought their album about three days before, so i wasn't familiar with the song. but i sang anyway, at least the lyrics i know. they got most of the crowd dancing and singing naman, although naawa ako sa kanila because the crowd didn't seem so 'on a high'. ang boring nung mga nanood. i didn't really care, sayaw lang nang sayaw. ang cute ni yael, because after 'lunes,' he said, "pagpasensiyahan nyo na boses ko ngayon ha. nag-test pa lang kami kahapon, so...and you know naman yung mga tests sa school..." haha! cute! mama was joking, "ano ba yan?! nag-test pa pala!" yael did look tired, may sakit pa yata siya he. because after he sang their second song, 'una', he said again. "sorry talaga, hehe. pagpasensiyahan nyo na lang boses ko." he added something else and used a word, lee said it was olats (sp?), meaning paos na raw. i dunno, saan ba galing yung word na yun? i think he was kinda sick, inuubo pa yata. aww, wawa naman si yael...their next song was 'pare ko.' i dunno if anybody else noticed it, pero parang he did this cute expression on his face when he sang "in love ako sa isang kolehiyala". hangkyut talaga! some girls screamed when he sang that particular line, heehee. kilig naman sila! i had a part of 'pare ko' recorded on my phone, ang ganda nung version nila. after 'pare ko', yael said, "yung next song is the theme song for romeo and juliet--" he didn't finish na, because everyone started to scream na, "yeah! gemini! gemini!" so they played, and the whole crowd was (finally) singing along. when they finished, tumayo si chris and pumunta kay yael. yael handed the guitar to chris, and settled on the drums. astig, palit sila! gawain din ng banda namin yun eh. hehe! chris got out his phone (yael was like, "oh no, he's really gonna do it"), tapos he requested na the whole crowd say "merry christmas, jillian". hehe, ang sweet. then kinanta niya yung 'jillian.' actually, i didn't pay much attention to him (sorry, chris), because i had my eyes on yael. ang cute niya sa drums, hehe. basta, di ko ma-explain, he was really good. nakakatuwa panoorin. for their last song, they sang 'jeepney.' i guess favorite yun nung mga pumunta, kasi talagang kantahan na lahat.

when they finished, the whole crowd seemed pretty much high na. chris threw one of his drumsticks to the crowd before he went down. sceiy, a junior sa school namin, got it. lucky girl! orange&lemons went onstage, pero i didn't watch them na. i went backstage to meet spongecola. i had armo, chris, and gosh sign my cd, too. si loraine nagpa-sign sa likod ng phone niya, so (inggit kasi ako), i asked the guys to sign mine, too. gosh signed it first, then si chris, then armo. armo's sig took up most of the space, kaya yung kay yael pinagkasiya niya. hehe.

my friends and i hung out by the professional bands' side of the lobby. yung iba kumain na. i was standing with my friends lang, then...

lee: hoy, fides! dinaanan ka lang ni armo!
me: ows?! talaga?! (i was so excited pa!) saan?
lee: sira, dumaan sa likuran mo! ayaw mo kasi padaanin. nag-'excuse me' kaso di ka pa rin nag-move, kaya sumingit na lang dun sa likod.
me: oh? di ko narinig eh...pasensiya...

embarrassing moment na naman. hehe. kung sakaling maalala pa ako ni armo, baka isipan niya ako yung batang bingi na hindi siya pinadaan. hehe. oh well, promise, di ko narinig na nag-'excuse me' siya. haha.

after one last group photo with the spongecola, the guys said goodbye and went out the lobby na. haay...ang saya talaga. buo na gabi ko.

all in all, i had three sets of autographs from spongecola: one at the back of my phone, one on my cd, and another on a poster (together with the autographs of the other performers--jpd, u-dub, and orange&lemons). astig!!!

.the rock and groove unlimited concert.

siyempre hindi ko sinama yung "for peace", di ba?! hehe.

anyway, since i only made my blog today, i wasn't able to write about the concert--which is actually a stupid thing to do, since nothing as exciting as that would ever happen again while i'm in ssc-w (haay, ga-graduate na eh...). so i'll just relay my story today. may hangover pa naman ako from the concert eh! (grabe, tagal na noh? nag-Pasko na't lahat-lahat...tsk, tsk.)

so, on wth my story...

21december2005, wednesday--before the concert:

so, there i was, on my way to our last rehearsal sa tambayan ng bayan, ang studio cafe. i made sure i had everything: my 10th muse shirt, my ever-important bass guitar, and my spongecola cd. can't forget the cd, siyempre!

but damn, wasn't the morning just a bummer. my dad had to drive my mom to calamba before driving me to the studio. when we got to calamba, super traffic! grabe! i was late for rehearsals, and i thought of what my mates would say. so my dad (alabshu, dude!) drove me to paseo de sta. rosa. iniwan na namin si mama, hehe.

and then when i got to the studio, my friends said kaka-open lang daw! shite talaga! nahiya tuloy ako sa 'rents ko, minadali ko sila, eh on time lang pala ako. kawawa tuloy si mama, nag-commute.

as rehearsals went on, i didn't really feel like playing anymore. iba yung tunog, probably because we were all jittery. whew! first major concert, baka sumablay.

we had lunch at lee's place (i love their house, very homey...) and played with her dog, wally, before going to school. it was around 01.30pm then, and the whole idea of playing in front of an audience was getting on my nerves, especially since i have this weird 'disorder' na laging sablay pag ending na--in everything i do, nice start lagi and then crashing ending. haha.
after what seemed like a decade, we got to school and went in through the lobby. we passed by the crew of nu107, who were probably thinking, "anong ginagawa ng mga batang 'to dito?". then we saw the stage--damn! good thing i didn't blurt out, "Dyan ba tayo magpe-perform?!" or else baka pinagtinginan ako nung mga nagse-set-up nung instruments. duh, fides!

since matagal-tagal pa before the concert, we hung out by the playground. i probably looked like an idiot jumping on the seesaw, but who the hell cares, right?

21december2005, wednesday--it's showtime:

by around 03.00pm, my friends and i were getting worried. concert was just an hour away, and there was still no sign of anybody na pupunta sa concert. kahit family ko, wala pa. eh di sinong manonood sa 'min?

we got even more frustrated when we were told that our band was performing first. ano sila, hilo? eh wala nga kami audience, tutugtog pa kami? kahit naman di kami professional band, siyempre we want people to watch us--sayang yung pinaghirapan namin sa studio! the solution was to find another school band to perform before us. so, pinamadali kong pumunta yung insan ko, si john and ang kanyang band (cookiesandcream). haay, pinoy nga naman oh--siyempre late. pero we got them to agree to play first, next yung cdbs girls. kaso, yung cookiesandcream walang dalang instruments, pinahiram ko pa tuloy yung bass guitar ko (and si lee, yung electric guitar niya). pero ayus lang, buo pa naman nung binalik sa akin eh--nawala nga lang yung cable ko. shite yun! buti na lang sabi ni mama ibibili niya ako ng bago. haha. nakakatuwa yung performance ng cookiesand cream. ang tindi nung "jingle bells" nila! haha! nung sa cdbs girls, hindi ko na masyado napansin yung pagtugtog nila, because i was too worried about ours.

when it was our turn, we got onstage. the hosts interviewed us, and asked why we named our band the '10th muse.' i think lee answered (i was too busy fixing my bass to pay attention to what was going on around me), pero i don't think she said the real reason. hehe. bawal eh, secret lang namin yun. and then we started to play--first was the christmas medley. i was very conscious the whole time, kasi hindi ko masyado gusto yung medley namin eh (nahihirapan kasi ako dun). buti na lang i saw the parents at one side of the field, cheering us on. my mom was there, dancing and singing along (and out of tune at that!). seeing her made me feel better, aww. then ailora and loraine exchanged roles (loraine was the drummer for the christmas medley, then ailo on vocals, tapos nagpalit sila), and we went on with "play that funky music." i was more comfortable with this song, kasi dun talaga ako nag-focus nung bass lessons ko. maayos naman, and our schoolmates (alabashu all, din!) kept cheering for us. favorite ko yung ending namin nung song, kasi astig (kahit pinahirapan kami ng aming mga dakilang teachers para maayos yun)! by the time i got down the stage, my legs were shaking. nahirapan ako bumaba, pero when i was finally back to the lobby, ayos na ulit ako. i actually felt real good after, talagang ang saya-saya. i want to perform again! hehe.

21december2005, wednesday--the professional bands take the stage:

i saw the lineup of the bands, and it was planned out:
1) juan pablo dream
2) spongecola
3) urbandub
4) orange&lemons

j.p.d, though i didn't really know the band, was actually good. siyempre, i was watchign the bassist nila, para naman meron akong guide as to how to perform the way a bassist should. and they were nice backstage, when we had a picture-taking.

when they were nearing the end of their set, my mom came up to me and said, "dumating na spongecola!". I was jumping up and down, and my friends got as excited as i was. kaya lang sabi ni mama bawal pa daw lumapit sa kanila, kasi baka pagod pa daw from their trip. okay, hintay muna ako.

instead of spongecola performing after j.p.d, urbandub went onstage. they changed the lineup kasi daw magpapahinga muna ang spongecola. ang cool ng bassist ng u-dub, astig mag-bass. natuwa ako panoorin siya.

siyempre, when spongecola finally performed, nagwala na yung mga tao (kasama ako!). i'll give a more detailed entry about the sc performance later, plus yung mga kalokohan ko and kakapalan ng mukha backstage...

of course, di pwede kalimutan ang orange&lemons. hinintay ko lang talaga yung "hanggang kailan", and yung "pinoy ako," although i never really got to watch a single episode of pinoy big brother, kaya when everyone was dancing to it, hindi ako masyado makasabay. hehe.

a few other school bands performed, pero di ko na masyado napakinggan, because i was so tired na. grabe, what a night! astig talaga! ayos na beginning ng christmas vacation. haay...

yeah! first post. finally sinipag ako mag-ayos ng blog! it's been a long time since i've wanted to make one, kaso batang tamad ako eh.

but anyway, since first post lang naman 'to, and it's 12:41am na (my 'rents are gonna give me a good, long sermon when they find out i'm still awake at this hour...), i'm gonna make this short, simple, and walang kwenta. haha!

anyway, i'm busy fixing up how it would look like eh, para naman mukha 'tong pinaghirapan (kahit hindi, hehe). sa susunod na yung mga drama ng buhay--i'm gonna find a good layout right about now...

-- Wait, Get Set Go

so please
baby please
open your heart
catch my disease
-- Catch My Disease, Ben Lee

but i did, i can
i was, i am
only human, living, dying
just like any fool who ever breathed
if love is blind
if love's a drug
it always is
it always was and
love was surely made for fools like me

-- Fools Like Me, Lisa Loeb

i would have stayed up
with you all night
had I known
how to save a life
-- How To Save A Life, The Fray

all that i am
all that i ever was
is here in your perfect eyes
they're all i can see
if i lay here
if i just lay here
would you lie with me
and just forget the world?
-- Chasing Cars, Snow Patrol
