Mirror, mirror on the wall—who's the biggest spoiler of them all? ME!
Haha.
So, I just finished watching the first sixty minutes of X-Men Origins: Wolverine (yeah, I'm good like that, ha!) and I am gonna say it plainly and simply: WOLVERINE ROCKS!
And because I like being the spoiler, I'm gonna make kwento na about it (Wolverine is in it, duh!). And tell y'all how the film looks (it looks awesome and action-packed!). And if it's worth seeing in the movies (seeing Hugh Jackman's abs is worth more than the Php100+ movie ticket!).
The movie first takes place in the Northern Territory, starts with a sickly young boy named James. He's lying on his bed, coughing and looking kawawa. Another boy, Victor, is keeping him company. Then James' father comes into the room, tells little James to drink his medicine and he'll get better soon. Suddenly, they hear a man shouting downstairs—it's Victor's father. He continues shouting until James' father goes down to him. James is left in his room, and then he hears a gunshot. He runs downstairs to find his father dead. Victor's father tells him it's time he knew about the truth. He reveals who James' real father is. James gets really angry, and suddenly, his claws come out. He attacks his real father and runs from home. Victor catches up with him and tells him they're brothers. They make a promise to look after each other.
The next few scenes show bits and pieces of James and Victor fighting in the army. They are finally taken captive and are sentenced to death. They don't die, so they are kept as prisoners. William Stryker finds them and invites them to join his Team X, which is a group of mutants.
The team travels to Africa in search of adamantium. When the locals fail to give them answers to where the metal was found, Victor attempts to kill one man but James stops him. James does not like methods of Team X, and decides to leave.
Six years later, James has settled on a new, clean life in the Canadian Rockies...
Yeah, okay. I'll stop. Haha. I won't spoil the entire thing na nga. But I did make a few screencaps (like, 35 caps?) from the film. They're HERE.
Anyway, the film looks great! I only saw the workprint, so it's not yet finished and still needs polishing (some of the visual effects weren't added yet), but the movie is lookin' good. Or maybe I'm biased, because I luv, luv, luv Hugh Jackman and I've been waiting since forever for this film. And this one shows a darker side of Wolverine, as compared to the Wolverine in the X-Men series.
The cast was a surprise. I didn't know Ryan Reynolds, Will.i.am and Dominic Monaghan were in it! Ryan provides most of the comic stuff in the first part, which was good to see. He cracked me up. It was weird seeing Will.i.am in something other than music videos, but he did well as John the teleporter. Dominic Monaghan (Merry from Lord of the Rings and Charlie from Lost)—I dunno why he keeps playing characters who die. Oops. Spoiler. Haha.
I like the script. Despite the dark theme and all the action, they threw in a few funny and witty lines.
William Stryker wants Wolverine's cooperation to protect the United States of American against the dangerous Sabretooth.
STRYKER: The country needs you, Logan.
WOLVERINE: I'm Canadian. An old couple spots Wolverine, who had just escaped from the experimental laboratory, sneaking into their barn.
OLD WOMAN: I think...there's a naked man...in the barn.
OLD MAN: Yeah.Wolverine asks The Blob where the island is. The Blob mishears Wolverine and hurls him to the other end of the room.
JOHN WRAITH: I told you not to mention his weight. Why did you call him "blob"?
WOLVERINE: I didn't call him "blob." I said "bub."Wolverine is looking for Gambit to ask him about the island. He finds him playing poker.
WOLVERINE: Are you Remy LeBeau?
GAMBIT: Do I owe you money?
WOLVERINE: (confused)...No.
GAMBIT: Then Remy LeBeau, I am.Team X is on an elevator. Suddenly, the lights turn off and becomes green, then the elevator stops.
DEADPOOL: Great—I'm stuck in an elevator with five guys and a high-protein diet.
STRYKER: Oh, Wade.
DEADPOOL: Dreams really do come true—
STRYKER: Wade, shut it! You're up next.
DEADPOOL: Thank you, sir. You look really nice today. It's the green—it brings out the seriousness in your eyes.
WOLVERINE: Oh my God. Do you ever shut up, pal?
DEADPOOL: No...not while I'm awake.
I just luv Ryan Reynolds. :)
Apparently, the DVD-quality workprint of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which was leaked to the Internet last March 31, had already been downloaded 75,000 times already within that one day. Wow.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine opens May 1, 2009 in theaters worldwide.
Oh, and last spoiler:
WOLVERINE DIES.
